Compress PDF

Optimize PDF structure and images, or try a target file size and compare results.

Target KB · Up to 250 MB

Supports PDF;1 file;250 MB each

PDF compression accepts files up to 250 MB; large files need more time and memory.

Set or remove the PDF opening password, then reopen the exported file to check the result. Rewriting a PDF may invalidate existing digital signatures.

Usage guide and examples

Choose compression and a target size

Add one PDF up to 250 MB and choose structure optimization, image recompression or a target size. Use a preset or a custom maximum in KB. Compare the actual size, target status and readability before downloading.

Check the input format and options with this example before using your own data. Random values, file sizes and presentation vary with the input and settings.

File size and readability

Compress a PDF for an upload size limit

Start with lossless structure optimization. If a scanned PDF remains too large, try image recompression and inspect small text before using the result.

01

Can I compress a PDF to 500 KB or 1 MB?

Choose Target file size and set a preset or custom limit in KB. Structure and image optimization run first. If allowed, page rasterization tries stronger compression. Check the reached/not-reached result; some PDFs cannot fit the limit at usable quality.

02

Lossless or image recompression?

Structure optimization keeps image quality unchanged. Image recompression may reduce quality, especially in scans, diagrams and small print. Choose the mode based on the document you need to preserve.

03

What if the result is larger?

Keep the smaller original. Rewriting a PDF can invalidate digital signatures; compare page count and legibility as well as bytes before submitting a processed document.
