Common port lookup

Look up common TCP and UDP port numbers, protocols and uses.

TCP / UDP · Protocols and uses
Input

A port is like an address for a network service. TCP provides reliable, ordered delivery; UDP sends packets without guaranteeing delivery or order.

PortTransportServiceWhat it is used for
20TCPFTP dataCarries FTP file contents; commonly used in active mode.
21TCPFTP controlHandles FTP connections, login and upload or download commands.
22TCPSSH / SFTPProvides encrypted remote login and file transfers through SFTP.
23TCPTelnetControls remote devices using text commands; traditional Telnet is unencrypted.
25TCPSMTPMainly transfers email between mail servers.
53TCP/UDPDNSResolves domain names to IP addresses so devices can find websites and services.
67UDPDHCP serverLets a router or server assign IP addresses and network settings to devices.
68UDPDHCP clientLets computers and phones receive automatically assigned IP addresses and settings.
80TCPHTTPServes ordinary HTTP webpages without encrypting the connection.
110TCPPOP3Lets an email app download messages from a mail server.
123UDPNTPSynchronizes the clocks of computers, servers and other devices.
143TCPIMAPSynchronizes messages, folders and read status across email devices.
161UDPSNMPChecks the operating status of routers, switches and other network devices.
389TCP/UDPLDAPLooks up directory information such as users and departments for account management.
443TCPHTTPSServes HTTPS websites over an encrypted connection.
465TCPSMTPSLets an email app send messages over a connection encrypted from the start.
587TCPSMTP submissionSubmits outgoing email from an email app, commonly enabling encryption with STARTTLS.
636TCPLDAPSLooks up user and organization directory information over an encrypted connection.
993TCPIMAPSSynchronizes email, folders and read status over an encrypted connection.
995TCPPOP3SDownloads email to an email app over an encrypted connection.
1433TCPMicrosoft SQL ServerConnects applications to Microsoft SQL Server to query and save database records.
1521TCPOracle DatabaseConnects applications to the Oracle Database listener.
2049TCP/UDPNFSLets computers access files and folders shared by another machine.
2375TCPDocker APICommon unencrypted Docker management interface for controlling containers.
3000TCPCommon development serverOften used to preview websites during development; the project can choose another port.
3306TCPMySQLConnects applications to MySQL to query and save database records.
3389TCP/UDPRDPLets users view and control a Windows desktop remotely.
5432TCPPostgreSQLConnects applications to PostgreSQL to query and save database records.
5672TCPAMQPExchanges tasks and data through message queues, commonly with RabbitMQ.
6379TCPRedisConnects to Redis to read and write caches, sessions and other in-memory data.
8080TCPHTTP alternateCommon alternate port for HTTP websites, admin pages and development services.
8443TCPHTTPS alternateOften used as an alternate HTTPS port for websites or admin pages; use depends on configuration.
9200TCPElasticsearchAccesses the Elasticsearch HTTP interface to search data and manage indexes.
27017TCPMongoDBConnects applications to MongoDB to read and save document-based data.

These are common uses. Software can change its port, and a port number may serve a different purpose.

Usage guide and examples

Work with configuration and network data

Search a port number or service keyword to filter common port, transport and service mappings. For example, 443 maps to HTTPS/TCP. These are conventions; real services can use other ports, and lookup does not check connectivity.

Check the input format and options with this example before using your own data. Random values, file sizes and presentation vary with the input and settings.
