Usage guide and examples

Identify a network device vendor

Enter a complete MAC address to search MA-L, MA-M and MA-S assignments and inspect the vendor and registered address.

Check the input format and options with this example before using your own data. Random values, file sizes and presentation vary with the input and settings.

Example input and settings

00:1B:63:00:00:00

What to check in the result

00:1B:63 → Apple
Lookup scope

Find a MAC address vendor, not a device owner

Enter a complete MAC address. The lookup checks IEEE assignment records and shows the registered organization when a match is available.

01

Try an address with a known prefix

00:1B:63:00:00:00 matches an Apple assignment. This demonstrates the prefix lookup; it does not prove that a particular physical device is made by Apple.

02

Randomized addresses may not identify a vendor

Locally administered or randomized addresses do not reliably map to a manufacturer. An unknown result can also reflect an assignment absent from the bundled dataset.

03

Manufacturer is not identity

The result is an IEEE registration, not a device model, serial number, owner, location or online status. A MAC address can be changed or spoofed.
