Characters with and without spaces
The character count includes spaces and punctuation. The no-spaces count removes spaces, line breaks and other whitespace.
Words, lines and sentences
Words are counted as letter or number sequences. Lines follow line breaks, while sentences recognize common English and CJK ending punctuation.
UTF-8 bytes
The byte count estimates the size of the text when encoded as UTF-8, which can differ from the visible character count.
